PCBs in water spike above safety level in River Hudson

August 4th, 2009

News item about drinking water contamination:

A sample showing elevated levels of PCBs was taken on Saturday morning for a 24-hour test.  Another sample was taken, with PCB amounts lower than 500 were taken on Sunday.

Whilst there is no drinking water being taken from the river without a filtration system, some officials are very annoyed that it was more than  twenty four hours before they got the PCB data and were contacted.

Whenever high amounts of PCB are found in the river, public officials from areas along the Hudson ought to be contacted and another sample is to be taken. Shawn Connelly (official), whose area is using carbon filtration units to eliminate the majority of PCBs from their drinking water, was only contacted at 8:30 Monday morning.

“although we  filter the water, it’s till vital for us be contacted,” he said. “It’s disturbing that wafter only a few months there are serious issues.”
