Chlorine Water Filters. The Truth

Let me ask you a simple question – Why do we need chlorine water filters? After all, chlorine is what they add to disinfect water, right? How can a disinfectant be harmful to your health? These are some of the questions that people ask me the moment I try to discuss the topic of chlorine water purifiers.

Seriously – what is so bad about chlorine that we need to use a chlorine water purifier? Let me tell you.

Chlorine has been used as a disinfectant for a long time now. While it is a good disinfectant for sure, it has its own disadvantages as well. Chlorine tends to react with the organic substances present in water and produce THMs, chloroform, and other such compounds which are very dangerous for your health.

These compounds are carcinogenic in nature – they are well known cancer causing agents. So, while chlorine disinfects water and reduces the chances of cholera and typhoid, it reacts with the substances in water and increases the chances of cancer. That’s not very encouraging to hear, right?

If you are still not convinced, here are some more reasons to buy chlorine water filters. According to various studies, drinking chlorinated water regularly increases the risks of heart diseases, fertility problems, immune system breakdown, asthma, lung damage, thyroid problems, and cancer. Now tell me – why would anyone in his right mind drink chlorinated water after knowing this?

When you are looking to buy chlorine water filters, make sure you buy one based on technologies like active carbon filtration, ion exchange, and sub micron filtration. Normal water purification techniques like point of use distillation or reverse osmosis are not very effective when it comes to chlorine filtration. Also, the technologies I have mentioned here are not only capable of removing chlorine, but other contaminants like herbicide and pesticide wastes, prescription drugs, and thousands of other toxic chemicals as well.

Along with a drinking water filter, buy a good shower head filter too. When you take a shower in chlorinated water, so much of harmful vapors go into your lungs that it is almost equal to drinking a gallon of that same water. Moreover, chlorine tends to dry your skin and hair badly. By taking shower in pure water, you can keep your skin and hair soft. So, get a good shower filter based on the technologies mentioned above to get complete protection.

Remember – it is not advisable to use chlorinated water for any purpose, let alone drinking. So, get some good chlorine water filters today, use pure water for all your daily needs, and stay away from diseases

What can I buy to filter the salt from a water softner out of my drinking water (kitchen tap)? ?

I have hard water so I bought a water softner which puts salt in the water that comes out of all the faucets, showers, etc in my house. I spend lots of money buying bottles of water because I can’t drink the water that comes out of my sink because it tastes weird (there’s lots of sodium in it). A Pur or Brita water filter (while good at taking lots of other sediments and stuvff out) still leaves the salt in water and it still tastes weird. So is there anything that specifically takes the salt back out that my water softener puts into my tap water?

that installation does not comply with the Water Regs, any problems with the plumber ie they dont want to come back or say it will be a while, call the local water company to send an inspector to look at it

the unit could have a problem with it but there still has to be a drinking water tap which bypasses the softener.

the salt used displaces the absorbed calcium and magnesium on the resin. the water which is produced after hardness removal then contains extra sodium. this can be a problem for people on restricted salt diets re high blood pressure, heart attacks. thats why you have a separate drinking water tap so you have the natural water salts but not the sodium

What is the best water filter for my shower?

My condo complex has well water with a water softening system. The water is awful – very soapy. My face broke out with acne and my hair looks terrible. I bought a filter for my shower head that includes blocking rust and chlorine, but I would like a better filter. I picked this one up from Home Depot for about $20. Can anyone recommend a bettter filter and the price range?
